My Closing Argument

In less than 36 hours it will all be over and we in the United Sates will have a new President. It's no secret that I indeed hope it is Barack Obama. I could go on and on about why he is absolutely the better candidate, but I'm sure you've heard it all before. I could also go on and on about why I am a Democrat - a belief in privacy, freedom of speech, equal rights and social justice all stemming from the core notion that every single child deserves a fair shot at making it in this world. Until that is true then we have to do our best to try and level the playing field. The notion that all people have a fair shot from birth is absolutely false and I challenge anyone to even attempt to prove that theory.

Still at this moment, I'm not going to try and appeal to anyone with that argument. Even if you don't share my worldview, I can almost guarantee that you'll be better off with Obama as President. So, for a few moments, shed your "Republican" hat and think about these facts without considering the person behind them. Just think about you, your family and the world you'd like to hand to your children, grandchildren, etc.

The following assertions are all based on non-partisan third-party organizations (and even some extremely conservative organizations)

If you make less than $200,000 a year your taxes will be LOWER under Obama than under McCain (and even lower than what they are now under George W. Bush).

Even if you currently have employer-supplied health benefits, your health care costs (and prescription drug costs) will go DOWN if Obama is elected. If John McCain is elected, all health care benefits will become taxable income and overall costs will rise by approximately 10%. Independent business owners will be affected the most. Under Obama, health care companies (who are currently the second most profitable industry in America) will be forced to cover every American, even if they have a "pre-existing" condition.

Under Barack Obama, college loan interest rates will be locked at 4.8%. McCain has suggested that interest rates should float freely in the marketplace, which would put them at 6.8% at this moment. How much do you want your kids and grandkids to owe when they graduate?

McCain has suggested offshore drilling as a solution to the energy crisis. Even the McCain campaign acknowledges that this effort will not produce any usably oil until 2016. If the nation invests the same amount of funding in renewable energy (as Obama has proposed) we will be able to produce 500% more energy in the same amount of time. Isn't that real energy independence?

John McCain does not believe in equal rights for all Americans. Separate is not equal. The Constitution states "All Men Are Created Equal." Shouldn't we live up to our values? By voting for John McCain you are effectively supporting discrimination.

Barack Obama wants to restrict access to semi-automatic weapons in cities and suburbs. John McCain does not. How safe would you feel knowing that anyone can go into a store and buy a rifle?

Finally, John McCain wants to invest your Social Security in the stock market. Need I say more?

Given the facts, I don't know how the choice could possibly be difficult. At the end of the day, I urge you to VOTE above all else, even if it isn't for Barack Obama. Just know that in voting for McCain you're voting against your own economic interests, against the foundations of our Constitution and against a better future for your children and grandchildren.

I just wanted you to be aware of that.

One More Reason...

So I donated to the Obama campaign again today (only $10, but it's what I could give) in their "give a gift to inspire someone else to give" matching program. Not only are our donations matched, but so are we! They connect us by name, email, whatever info we want to give. Here is the email my "match" sent to me:

"Thank you for believing in change the way me and my family do and for matching my small contribution. As someone who's spouse has served in Iraq and will do so again, having you support a candidate who wants to end the nonsense and do the right thing means more than you will ever know. Thanks again."

Now THAT is what Obama is about, and that's what this election is about. Inspiring every American to believe in the power they have to create change, and that they're not alone. We're all in this together. That's one more check in the Obama box.

Obama Is Where It's At

I've donated and I've recruited and now I'm at the point where I will honestly and truly do anything and everything it takes to win. That's what made me a HIllary-ite: She was willing to do whatever she had to do to claim victory against pretty steep odds. Well, Obama has learned and now he's got what it takes, but it goes far beyond that.

We're talking about the future of humanity, and that is not something to take lightly. It may sound melodramatic, but trust me when I say it is simply realistic. Things are bad. Things are quite possibly the worst they have ever been in my lifetime, my parent's lifetime and my grandparent's lifetime (they've told me so). Companies own America and they own you. The rich get $240 million in severance for driving a company into the ground and the rest lose everything.

Forget for a minute who you "like" and think about who has the best ideas. McCain is against regulation. McCain is again healthcare for all. McCain is against equal rights. If that isn't enough, a McCain win would mean that Sarah Palin is a "heartbeat" away from the White House - a White House that would be home to the oldest President in US History. Are you willing to bet the future of humanity on her? I'm not.

Be weary. They'll say anything to win, and most of what they've been saying are flat-out lies. They go on about being the "Original Mavericks," whatever that means. Now, more importantly, do you really want the economy in the hands of a "Maverick?" That's not a safe bet. So watch these two clips and get to know the real McCain and the real Obama. Then, on November 4th, go out and do the human thing - Vote Obama.

The Gibson/Palin Interview Decoded

If you weren't able to catch last week's three-part series of Sarah Palin making it up as she went along, here it is in about 100 words:

Palin: "Hi Charlie. Thanks for joining me in the great state of Alaska." Insert random, out-of-place reference to Hillary Clinton in a sad attempt to lull her supporters. It fails miserably. "You know Charlie, war is hell. I can see Russia from my house."

Gibson: "Have you ever met with a foreign head of state?"

Palin: "You know Charlie, there are people out there hellbent on destroying us. I can see Russia from my house."

Gibson: "So the answer is no?"

Palin: "I. Uhh." Insert some form of the word hell. "Russia. House."

Gibson: "Do you agree with the Bush Doctrine?"

Palin: Leans in as if she is going to say something extremely important. Points finger at Gibson. Sweeps enormous bushy bangs. Asks in the same tone a 12-year-old in deep trouble uses while trying to bide time, "Which part?"

Gibson: Rolls eyes. Sighs loudly. Thinks to self, "I have more experience than you do, and I can't even see Russia from my house." Breaks it down in the same tone a parent uses when talking to a 12-year-old in deep trouble, "The part about preemptively striking if the US is threatened."

Palin: "You know Charlie, America comes first." Insert lie about visiting troops in Iraq and Germany. Say it was honorable, even though it never happened. Realize that telling lies seems to work really well, as no one questions a word she is saying. Smile awkwardly. Tilt head. Get back to using dramatic words that have nothing to do with the question. Insert form of the word hell. Finish with, "and I love guns."

Honestly, how can anyone vote for this person? This isn't sexism, it's realism.
